Warm summer weather is here, and you can’t hide behind those big sweaters anymore. Exposing more skin makes summer a good motivator shedding those extra pounds. Let outdoor activities and lighter summer meals lead the way. Then boost your summer weight loss plan with these six tips to get in shape well before summer’s end.
1. Use a 4X-Day Meal Plan
Don’t worry about counting calories. This 4x-day meal plan will help you get the right nutrients at the right time of the day. Focus more on protein and fiber and less on carbs to fuel your body and stave off hunger, which leads to overeating. Eat plenty of protein at breakfast. Have one of two carbs with protein either at lunch or dinner. Have one snack with fiber and protein such as an apple and a handful of nuts.
2. Eat Clean
Fresh foods spoil easily because they’re not loaded down with preservatives. That’s the kind of food your body’s DNA is looking for. Processed food slows down metabolism because your body has to figure out what it is and what to do with it. Natural foods are easier to digest and turn your body into a fat-burning machine.
3. Get Adequate Sleep
Restful, good quality sleep is restorative and helps keep all your systems working properly. Too little sleep causes hormones to get out of balance. This can affect your metabolism and cause other health problems. If you have insomnia, look for ways to address the problem such as a consistent sleep schedule, winding down before bedtime, and avoiding alcohol.(You don’t need those extra calories anyway).
4. Keep a Consistent Workout Schedule
Working out is obviously an important part of any weight-loss plan. Motivation and consistency are the key components. Make sure you have a workout plan you enjoy and engage in it at least 30 minutes a day five days a week. (More is better). It’s summer, so think hiking and biking if you love the outdoors. Depending on the shape you’re in,
try to do more than just walking. As your endurance improves, you’ll lose more weight faster by increasing intensity.
5. Build Up Muscles
Building muscle mass with a weight training program is a great way to boost your metabolism. A recent study found that people who participated in resistance training for 30 minutes three to four times a week lost more fat than the group who did not.
6. Get Your Vitamin D
Good news. A sunny summer day helps keep the fat away. Vitamin D helps digest foods more efficiently and regulates blood sugar. An absence of it turns fatty acids that turn calories to fat. This doesn’t mean broiling yourself, but before slathering on the sunscreen, bask in the sun for about 15 minutes. It’s the best source of vitamin D.
Your summer slimdown will be successful if you follow these six tips. You may not see dramatic changes quickly, but these are the tried and true ways to lose weight and maintain your new shape over time.
