6 Reasons to Buy a Supercharger for Your Vehicle

Many people, especially car enthusiasts, are often looking for ways to increase the performance of their vehicles. When looking to create big power, after researching various other parts and methods, people usually look towards forced induction. Turbocharging and supercharging are the top two methods of forced induction. There are many reasons that you should purchase a supercharger for your vehicle rather than a turbocharger.

Reason 1: Power Increase
The most obvious reason that you should buy a supercharger for your vehicle is to increase its power. Superchargers utilize the belts of an engine to increase the amount of air that flows into the engine. By increasing the airflow superchargers allow an engine to use more fuel to generate more power.

Reason 2: No Turbocharger Lag
If you are deciding between choosing a turbocharger and a supercharger for your vehicle you should note that superchargers have virtually no lag time before boost is applied into the engine. Turbochargers, as a result of the spooling process, take time to provide the air that they collect. Superchargers do not need to spool due to the fact that they are belt-driven.

Reason 3: Power at Low Revolutions
The supercharger’s belt-driven design allows it to provide boost when an engine is at a lower revolution per minute (RPM). Turbochargers have a difficult time spooling at low RPM’s and thus can’t provide as much boost as a supercharger can.

Reason 4: Smog Legal
Not all supercharger kits are smog legal. However, there are more smog legal supercharger kits than turbocharger kits. Superchargers typically do not alter the smog emissions of a car as much as turbochargers do therefore many of the kits pass the smog inspections.

Reason 5: Manufacturer Warranties
There are many vehicles that are sold from the factory with turbochargers and superchargers. Depending on your vehicle the manufacturer may have offered a supercharger kit as an additional option. If you are able to purchase a supercharger kit from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of your vehicle then it will most likely will also be covered under their warranties.

Reason 6: Variety
There are a plethora of different ways to supercharge a vehicle. The supercharger market offers a variety of designs that each have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Having access to numerous options will allow for you to select the right kit for your needs.

Supercharging and turbocharging are both great ways to increase the power that a vehicle produces. Superchargers have many advantages over turbochargers and can be very beneficial for your vehicle. Your choice of a supercharger should all depend on what you would like to accomplish with your vehicle.
