5 Tips For Staying Healthy This Summer

Summer is an excellent time to go outside and have fun with your relatives or friends, but you must follow certain habits to remain healthy. Here are five tips for staying healthier this summer.

Tip 1: Consider What You Are Eating At Picnics or Barbecues

It is easy to contract a foodborne illness in the summer when you go to barbecue dinners at a friend’s home or to picnics at the park. Make sure to use caution while packing or cooking food for outdoor events, and if you are visiting someone else’s home, then verify that the meats, vegetables and other foods have been handled properly. Foods that are supposed to remain hot shouldn’t sit out on a table for long amounts of time, and any food that is supposed to be served cold should remain refrigerated or stored on ice.

Tip 2: Prevent Insect Bites and Stings This Summer

If a mosquito bites you, then you can develop a dangerous illness such as malaria or Zika virus. It is better to avoid areas that have a lot of mosquitoes because you are likely to go home with one or more itchy bites. Make sure to use specialized soap, shampoo and laundry detergent to deter mosquitoes. In addition, remain aware of your surroundings to avoid any dangerous stings from honeybees.

Tip 3: Avoid a Cycling Injury

When the weather is warm in the summer, you will want to ride your bicycle, but you should use a variety of safety equipment to avoid an injury. Visit a store to buy a helmet that fits properly to prevent a concussion if you fall from the bicycle or are hit by a vehicle. At the same time, you can find elbow or kneepads to help prevent scrapes or broken bones. If you plan to ride a bicycle early in the morning or late at night, then add headlights and reflective devices to your bicycle.

Tip 4: Remain Hydrated To Prevent Heatstroke

While wearing lightweight clothing and a wide-brimmed hat can keep you cool, it is also important to remain hydrated while you are enjoying summertime festivities. If you are too hot and not perspiring, then you can have heatstroke easily, and this condition can lead to death. Begin your morning by drinking a lot of water, and you should carry bottles of water with you to remain hydrated throughout the day or night.

Tip 5: Avoid Having Sunburned Skin

Not only can having sunburned skin lead to wrinkles, but also, you can develop skin cancer from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays. It is essential to apply high-quality sunscreen lotion or cream to your facial and body skin in the summer.
